The British Admiralty announced sinking of U-boat by Free French corvette Roselys. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carry out offensive sweep over North France.

Russian Front, Moscow announced recapture of Barvenkova and Lozovaya, on the Ukraine front. Myatlevo, 45 miles Southeast of Vyazma, and Sukhinichi, 140 miles South West of Moscow, also retaken by Red Army.

In Africa, Benghazi again in Axis hands, Erwin Rommel's forces reached Regima, five miles beyond Benina Aerodrome.

Far East, In Malaya, Japanese reached Ulu Sedili, 38 miles from Johore Bahru . Batavia announced landings by Japanese at Pamangkat, on west coast of Borneo. At least 12 enemy planes destroyed by British and American pilots in the Rangoon area.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, striking out of Palembang, hit Kuantan airfields scoring numerous hits on runways and hangars.

Hawaiian Air Force. VII Bomber Command is activated. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers of Task group 8.9 fly from Canton Island to Palmyra.
