The Kriegsmarine began a four day attack on convoys in Arctic, cruiser HMS Edinburgh damaged by torpedo from U-456.

Large-scale fighter sweeps over Northern France. Le Havre, Flushing, Abbeville, and shipping off Brittany attacked.

Russian Front The Wehrmacht announced Russian attacks on Kerch Peninsula and on central front.

In Africa it was Announced from Cairo that Suez Canal and Damietta areas were raided.

In the Mediterranean Five enemy aircraft shot down during daylight raids on Malta.

In the Philippines Heavy bombing of fort and harbour area of Corregidor.

In Australasia Heavy Allied raid on Lae aerodrome, New Guinea.

Admiral H. R. Stark, Commander of United States naval forces in European waters, arrived in England. In scattered raids on North East coast 11 Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed out of 50.

In Burma. Japanese capture Lashio and begin move to drive Chinese back along Burma Road toward China and drive United States and British forces back toward India.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-39 fighters flying out of Port Moresby strafe aeroplanes and fuel dumps at Lae and Salamaua.

Zone of Interior. Air Transport Command is established.

Adolf Hitler and Mussolini continued talks at Salzburg.
