The British Admiralty announced loss of HMS Naiad, 5,450 ton cruiser on 11 March 1942 by the Kriegsmarine U-565 after being hit by one torpedo and sank North of Sidi Barrani, Egypt.

Russian Front, Russians recaptured an extensive district in the Smolensk area. Heavy Soviet attacks Northeast of Taganrog.

Far East, Japanese forces driven back on Irrawaddy front by British tanks. Chinese still holding part of Toungoo. In the Philippines a new Japanese attack repulsed with heavy losses. Darwin raided by Japanese aircraft.

Sir Stafford Cripps broadcast to India's peoples from New Delhi. Anti-war riots reported at Sofia.
