Events On This Day

Luftwaffe floatplane destroyed during Coastal Command combats in Bay of Biscay.

Russian Front. Red armies still holding enemy attacks in Don loop. South of Rostov The Wehrmacht claimed to be near upper reaches of Kuban river.

In Africa. Egyptian front still quiet.

Single Luftwaffe bombers dropped bombs at places in East and Northeast England and Midlands, and on seaside resort in South West area.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters strafe Oivi and Kokoda.

Eleventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, 2 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, and 1 LB-30 bomber fly bombing and photo reconnaissance mission to Tanaga and Kanaga and also bomb Kiska. 4 of the aircraft have mechanical trouble but all return.
