Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carried out extensive sweeps over Cologne and Rhineland. Gnome-Rhône Aero engine works at Genneviliiers raided at night by Whitley bombers. Other aircraft of Bomber Command raided objectives in Germany, including Cologne, and the docks at Le Havre.

In the Mediterranean, Day and night air battles over Malta.

In India, Japanese aircraft raided Colombo, British naval base in Ceylon. Of 75 raiders, 27 were shot down. Five more were probably destroyed and 25 others damaged.

In Burma, American heavy bombers attacked docks at Rangoon.

In the Philippines, Heavy Japanese attack on the Bataan Peninsula repulsed.

Luftwaffe bomber destroyed off east coast of England.
