Events On This Day

Russian Front. Stubborn fighting continued round Sevastopol.

In Africa. British artillery stopped, enemy armoured forces at Knightsbridge. French repulsed another attack at Bir Hacheim.

In the Pacific. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz reported withdrawal of the Japanese fleet from Midway island.

Seventh Air Force. General Tinker, Commanding General, is lost during 6-7 June 1942 while leading flight of LB-30 bombers from Midway for predawn attack on Wake Island.

Eleventh Air Force. Japanese troops invade Attu. More troops are put ashore on Kiska. An enemy aeroplane is sighted over Cold Bay but cannot be intercepted.
