Russian Front, Red Army launched new attack between Taganrog and Stalino.

Far East, United States Navy Department announced that United States, submarines had torpedoed a Japanese aircraft carrier, three cruisers, a destroyer and a naval tanker.

Official announcement of fall of Rangoon.

Lieutenant General Sir R. Alexander appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) Burma.

Military reorganisation, implementing Executive Order of 28 February 1942, becomes effective. The Air Corps and the United States Army Air Force Combat Command, which previously had made up the Army Air Forces
under General Arnold as Chief, are discontinued, and the Army Air Forces
is reorganised with Arnold as Commanding General. Army Ground Forces under General McNair and Services of Supply (later Army Service Forces) under General Sommervell are also organised. All are under control of General Marshall, chief of staffs. In the Navy, Admiral King, Commander-In-Chief United States Fleet, assumes additional responsibilities as he succeeds Admiral Stark as Chief of Naval Operations.

Japanese forces complete capture of Rangoon, dealing China a great blow by cutting off supplies from Burma Road.
