Twelfth Air Force. XII Bomber Command B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Mignano road defiles, Benevento road bridge, and Frosinone airfield. Medium bombers hit Ariano (and trucks and road nearby), Isernia, and Castelnuovo and Formia road junctions. United States and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft of Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) attack motor transport movement, roads, and bridges in Potenza-Auletta areas, maintain cover over Fifth Army in Salerno invasion area (where the enemy launches a fierce effort to reduce the beachhead), and during 12-13 September 1943 fly intruder missions over 6 airfields between Rome and Pizzo, finding little activity. British Eighth Army forces on toe of Italy capture Crotone and push North, and on Taranto front occupy territory up to North of Castelaneta.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Kalathos and Maritsa airfields.

Fourteenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters bomb shipping in Hong Kong area, 4 hit Yangtze River traffic at Chiuchiang, and 4 P-40 fighters strafe barracks and destroy locomotive West of Shihhweiyao.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Lae as Japanese begin withdrawal in face of Australian 9th and 7th Division moving in from East and West. Australian 5th Division occupies Salamaua and surrounding area. First Allied aeroplane lands at Salamaua airfield. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers strafe between Saidor and Langemak Bay. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit barges near Cape Gloucester, and A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb radio station at Gasmata.

Eleventh Air Force. XI Fighter Command moves up to Adak.
