The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitoes bombers carried out an extremely heavy raid on Tours, also carried out was a heavy night raid on Wilhelmshaven.

North Africa. Troops of the British 8th Army occupied Foum Tatahouine in South Tunisia and island of Djerba off the coast.

Russian Front. Soviet troops captured Zalegoshch in Orel region.

In Australasia. Japanese air force aircraft flew over Sydney area.

United States of America. United States Navy (USN) warships shelled Japanese bases on Attu, Aleutians.

Labour amendment to Government statement on William Beveridge Report defeated by 336 votes to 119.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Headquarters Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF) is set up (under General Spaatz) and 6 principal subordinate commands are specified, Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF), Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF), Northwest African Coastal Air Force (NACAF), Northwest African Training Command (NATC), Northwest African Air Service Command (NAASC), and North West African Photo Reconnaissance Wing.

Twelfth Air Force. Weather cancels bomber missions. Fighters provide direct support for British First Army in Sbeitla-Kasserine-Feriana areas.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Barar area and unsuccessfully attack shipping off Dili. Individual B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Finschhafen landing ground and Madang area, and unsuccessfully attack shipping off Cape Gloucester and Cape Orford.

Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound airfield at Munda. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers attack Kahili area and shipping nearby.

Eleventh Air Force. Weather reconnaissance B-24 Liberator heavy bombers determines 3 ships at Attu to be friendly. P-40 fighters on local patrol over Amchitka encounter and shoot down 2 fighters.
