Events On This Day

Huls, Antwerp and Rotterdam docks bombed. Concentrated attack on Mulheim by The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers, 35 bombers missing.

His Majesty the King returned from Malta to North Africa.

Eighth Air Force. In first large-scale daylight raid on Ruhr, 182 heavy bombers hit chemical works and synthetic rubber plant at Huls in main attack. This plant, representing a large percentage of the country's producing capacity, is severely damaged. 11 YB-40 heavily armed escort bombers accompany the Huls raid; 1 is lost. Other heavy bombers bomb former Ford and General Motors plants at Antwerp.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb Salerno during 21-22 June 1943. Northwest African Coastal Air Force (NACAF) Beaufighters sink small vessel off East Sardinia.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters patrol over Pantelleria, no encounters with enemy.

Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers join medium bombers in pounding Ywataung marshalling yard. Monywa is also thoroughly bombed.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Taberfane area.

Seventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Canton Island fly photo reconnaissance of Beru, Nukunau, Tabiteuea, Onotoa, Tarawa, and Arorae. 1 of the heavy bombers strafes Arorae.

Eleventh Air Force. A United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 sights a submarine 5 miles East of Zeto Point. A B-24 Liberator heavy bombers then searches the area but makes no contact.
