Events On This Day

North Africa. The French announced capture of Jebel Mansour, on road to Pont du Fahs.

In Burma. The Japanese renewed their attacks on British line in Mayu peninsula.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Weather prevents Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) bombing missions. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) fighters attack positions and vehicles in battle area Light bombers and medium bombers bomb South landing ground at Soliman, positions North West of Enfidaville, and several other points in battle area as Allied ground forces continue advance on Bizerte and Tunis.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack landing grounds, concentrations, and vehicles North and North West of Enfidaville. P-40 fighters escort bombers and fly fighters sweeps over battle area.

Tenth Air Force. 11 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack Ywataung railroad yards and vicinity.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Wewak airfield and towns of Madang and Saidor. A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb and strafe positions at Green's Hill. Single B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit airfields at Madang and Finschhafen.

Thirteenth Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers fly harassing strike during 25-26 April 1943 against Kahili airfield. 12 others bomb same target later during the night.

Eleventh Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 12 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers , 32 P-40 fighters, 23 P-38 Lightning fighters, and 1 F-5A reconnaissance aircraft fly 12 missions to Kiska and Attu. Targets include Holtz Bay, North Head, South Head, beach areas, runway, shipping, and submarine base.
