Eighth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers equipped with H2S fly first large daylight mission in European Theatre of Operations (ETO) against cloud covered target. Two of these pathfinder aircraft lead main attack of 244 other B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers on port area at Emden. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters with belly tanks escort bombers entire way to target in Germany for first time. More than 130 B-26 Marauder medium bombers attack airfields at Conches and Beauvais, Tille. A few B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers fly with The British Royal Air Force (RAF) on night raid against Hannover.

Twelfth Air Force. Weather almost halts Twelfth Air Force operations. XII A Support Command fighters strafe Viterbo Airfield and Bracciano seaplane base, bomb road junction at San Severo, and strafe locomotive and train station. Other Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) aeroplanes hit trucks in Benevento area.

Fifth Air Force. 117 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers , escorted by 129 P-38 Lightning fighters and P-40 fighters, attack airfields and shipping in Wewak area. About 40 aircraft are destroyed on the ground and 8 are claimed shot down in combat. The bombers claim 10 ships (totalling about 28,000 tons), 11 luggers, and a launch sunk. Finschhafen is bombed twice during the day.

Thirteenth Air Force. 27 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 20 P-40 fighters and P-39 fighters, and several Navy fighters pound Kahili area. P-39 fighters over Choiseul strafe (and explode) 3 barges off Wogai Point, and strafe 2 others off Bambatana, leaving 1 ablaze.
