Events On This Day

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters hit vessel on North side of Peljesac Peninsula and railway station at Anagni. A-36 Apache dive bomber attack railway station at Ferentino, harbour and railroad yard at Civitavecchia, and truck park near Aquino.

Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers attack marshalling yard and bridge at Certaldo, marshalling yards at Poggibonsi and viaduct at Bucine, and bridge in North West part of Orvieto. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers blast marshalling yards at Ferrara and Rimini.

Fourteenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters on armed reconnaissance strafe railroad station, yards, and town area at Hsipaw, hit numerous freight cars between Hsipaw and Mansam Falls, and attack railroad yards at Hopong. 3 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers on shipping sweep along Yangtze River claim a cargo vessel and an armed passenger ship sunk South West of Wuhu.

Fifth Air Force. 120 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and B-26 Marauder medium bombers pound positions at Cape Gloucester as United States Marines take major objective, the airfield. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Madang. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb bivouac and command target near Sio, and other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers fly light attack against Manokwari, hitting town and shipping.
