Events On This Day

In the Mediterranean. Pantelleria again bombarded by naval forces by day and bombed at night.

Russian Front. During the night of 2-3 June 1943, Soviet air force bombers attacked rly junctions of Kiev and Roslavl.

Agreement reached in Algiers between General Henri Giraud and General Charles de Gaulle on formation of French Committee for National Liberation.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Fighters, light bombers, and medium bombers of Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) and Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) attack defended positions on Pantelleria following a raid on town area and docks by Wellingtons during 2-3 June 1943.

Ninth Air Force. Colonel Charles D McAllister assumes command of IX Fighter Command, succeeding General Strickland. At the same time McAllister assumes command of Desert Air Task Force (DATF).

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb supply dump area at Dobo. Other targets attacked in Netherlands East Indies (NEI) suffer little damage.

Thirteenth Air Force. During 3-4 June 1943, B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Kahili airfield and Moliko River area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack small vessels at Tinputs and Teop, sinking 1 and firing the other.

Eleventh Air Force. Weathered out from Kiska are 3 weather missions flown by 2 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 2 P-40 fighters, as well as 2 attack missions by 2 heavy bombers and 6 fighters.
