Ninth Air Force. Ninth Air Force Headquarters issues letter ordering small detachment of Headquarters (IX Air Force Engineer Section) to assume functions of a command under Colonel Karl B Schilling, thus beginning the creation of IX Engineer Command.

Twelfth Air Force. General Davison takes command of XII Air Force Engineer Command (Provisional), following the command's assignment to Twelfth Air Force on 1 November 1943. XII A Support Command and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighters and fighter-bombers hit trucks and trains in Sora Avezzano area, small vessels off Solta and Pescara, and airfields of Furbara and Tarquinia.

Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb railroads between Montalto di Castro and Orbetello, between Orbetello and Talamone, and between San Vincenzo and Cecina. Bomb carrying P-38 Lightning fighters, escorted by others, hit tunnel North of Terni and strafe Montalto di Castro.

Fourteenth Air Force. Chinese-American Composite Wing enters combat on this date. Its B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Amoy and Swatow, successfully bombing and strafing ground troops, supply facilities, and shipping. The medium bombers claim 4 cargo ships badly damaged and possibly sunk.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters bomb Palmalmal Plantation. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on armed reconnaissance claim 1 vessel sunk North of New Britain.

Thirteenth Air Force. 23 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers strike Buka airfield.

Is severely damaged after being attacked by Allied aircraft.
