Soviet troops move into Korea.

Ninth Air Force. Colonel Reginald F Vance becomes commander of 9th Air Division.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Okinawa bomb Matsuyama airfield. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and A-26 Invader light bombers hit Chiran and Kanoya airfields while other A-26 Invader light bombers and A-20 Havoc light bombers and P-47 Thunderbolt fighters hit towns of Kushikino, Akune, and Miyazaki. More B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and fighter-bombers hit shipping and command targets in Kyushu, North Ryukyus, and between Japan and Korea. The aircraft claim several small merchant ships sunk and damaged, and numerous bridges, railroads, factories, and other targets hit. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from the Philippine Islands pound Kagi airfield and Takao marshalling yard. P-38 Lightning fighters support ground forces in or near Kabayan, Kiangan, and Uldugan.

Eleventh Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers make a combined visual and radar bomb run over Kataoka. 3 more bomb Suribachi airfield, hitting runways and buildings. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flies a radar ferret mission.
