Events On This Day

Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers lay mines in Yangtze River. 10 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 5 fighters knock out bridges at Hankow and Hengyang but fail to hit bridge North of Siaokan. 130 fighter-bombers over areas of South and East China attack troops, bridges, rail traffic, town areas, and other targets and generally disrupt Japanese movement and comm.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers again pound bridges along Indochina coast. Bombers and fighters pound Cagayan Valley targets and continue support of ground forces on Luzon. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit troop concentrations and caves in Bugnay area. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Oelin and Tabanio airfields while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and P-38 Lightning fighters bomb Sandakan and support ground forces on Tarakan Island.

Twentieth Air Force. During 13-14 May 1945, 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's drop mines in Shimonoseki Strait.

Seventh Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam bomb underground hangar on Moen. 9 other heavy bombers strike airfield on Marcus.
