Events On This Day

Fourteenth Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters knock out bridge at Chungmow and damage another. 18 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers attack troop concentrations, gun em placements, villages, bridges, and targets around Hsihsiakou, Yutze, Anyang, Puchou, and Szeshui and knock out bridge at Szeshui.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). Continuing offensive against Balikpapan, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and fighter-bombers bomb defensive positions and oil installations. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Fort Brook and Oelin airfields. Fighter-bombers support ground forces in Kiangan area and in Cervantes sector. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb oil refinery at Shinchiku.

Twentieth Air Force. During 29-30 June 1945, 32 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's bomb Nippon Oil Company at Kudamatsu while 25 others mine West Shimonoseki Strait and waters around Maizuru and Sakata.

Seventh Air Force. 34 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47 Thunderbolt fighters from Ie Shima hit airfields at Kanoya and Kushira on Kyushu with rockets and machine gun fire, and attack shipping while returning, claiming 7 small vessels sunk.
