On 12 August 1935, Ethiopia pleaded for arms embargo to be lifted.

On 16 August 1935, France and Britain offered Italy large concessions in Ethiopia to avert war, but Italy rejected these offers.

On 22 August 1935, Britain reaffirmed its embargo on armaments.

Launched 29 August 1935

United States of America Neutrality Act of 1935 was signed on 31 August 1935, imposed a general embargo on trading in arms and war materials with all parties in a war. It also declared that American citizens travelling on warring ships travelled at their own risk.
