                    Eleventh Air Force. Reconnaissance is flown over Amchitka, 
                    the Semichis, Agattu, and Attu. Flotsam sighted outside of 
                    Holtz Bay confirms that freighter bombed on previous day sank. 
                    6 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers 
                    , and 12 P-38 Lightning fighters take off to attack Kiska. 
                    The P-38 Lightning fighters and 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers 
                    turn back due to weather. The B-25 Mitchell medium bombers 
                    find the target obscured and 5 Zeros waiting to intercept 
                    them, whereupon they turn back without attacking. The 5 remaining 
                    B-24 Liberator heavy bombers circle Kiska without contacting 
                    enemy aeroplanes. One of the B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 
                    exploiting a break in cloud cover, bombs Kiska submarine base
