The 50 mm MK 214A (Maschinenkanone 214A) was designed by Mauser Werke AG alongside the 5 cm BK (Bordkanone) which was designed by Rheinmetall-Borsig. The 50 mm MK 214 was of a complicated construction, and there were 390 individual parts, which made it far too complicated for aircraft installation, however the second version the 50 mm MK 214A was installed in the Me 262 and this was test flown by Karl Baur in February 1945. Extensive testing was carried out during March 1945.
