Type XVIII was designed as submersibles and had a Walter type
hull, with three watertight compartments. These U-boats were
similar in design to the
Type
XXI.
Type XVIII two of this class was to be built between
1943 and 1944. Two were partly constructed by
F.
Krupp Germaniawerft AG, of Kiel, U-796, and U-797. They
were subsequently broken up by
F.
Krupp Germaniawerft AG, of Kiel.
